6 Classics in one cart. We´ve seen that before, but that didn´t work out (check out the other reviews). Now, Konami tries again with 6 of it´s best games ever:
Let´s see what these games can do for a (oldskool) gamer...
First on the list: Frogger. Everybody already knows Frogger. Try to get your frogs over a highways, and then hop over logs and crocodiles to get them home safe. Every time you managed to get five frogs across, the difficulcy increases by adding (frog-eating)snakes or racecars.
Nostalgic graphics have been preserved. And it looks like the sound is from the eighties too. Many players will be thrilled having this playing on their GBA.
Secondly: Scramble. A lot less known by the newer generations gamers, but I´m sure they´ll (falsely) recognize this game from other platforms, such as the Nokia telephones.
In Scramble, you´ll be flying a spacecraft through a tunnel filled with enemy planes and missiles. Given two directions to shoot (horizontal and diagonaly down), you´ll have to find a way through this tunnel, while keeping in mind you´ll have to shoot feultanks to fill your craft up.
The graphics are even worse than they are in Frogger (same goes for the sound), and the game becomes quite boring after a while.
Third in row: Time Pilot. This game never reached the public it deserved. A quite easy game to handle, but difficult to master. You´ll be flying a plane through different ages (1910, 1940, 1970 and so on). Each of these levels has it´s own kind of enemy fightercrafts. Whereas in 1910 the enemy used simple guns and dropped bombs, lateron they´ll be using machineguns and heat-seeking missiles.
Your task is to eliminate enough enemies and then take out the boss (zeppelins, massive airplanes, etc)
Graphics aren´t to great, and for sound... Only bangs and pows (saying these words are even better than in the game itself). Nevertheless, the gameplay and endurance of the game makes this one worth it.
Gyruss. Not much to say about this one actually... it´s the circular version of Space Invaders. Instead of keeping your ship on the bottom of the screen, you´ll now be moving in a circle.
Graphics were better in Space Invaders, but the sound´s better (thanks to the music).
Yie Ar Kung-Fu, the origin of games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Tekken. This game is the first one on this cart that uses background pictures(!). Don´t expect a great game when hearing names as Tekken and Mortal Kombat, Yie Ar Kung-Fu won´t give you 3D-animated characters or anything like that. The music´s quite catchy, so expect yourself to be humming the song after a few games...
Last game: Rush´n Attack (aka Green Beret). An actiongame. You´re a commando. Your task? rescue the hostages held by the enemy. How to do it? Take out your knife, stab some enemies, steal their weapons (flamethrowers, etc) and fight your way through the enemy lines.
Rush´n Attack has the greatest looks from this cartridge by far. However, the game is quite hard to play.
Should you buy this cartridge? According to me, you should. Frogger and Time Pilot make this cart worth the money. 4 games extra, what´s not to like about it? Especially the older gamers (Commodore 64, Amiga, NES) will enjoy reliving these classics.
